Ram Black Knight (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi)
Black Knight Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi var. "Black Knight")
The Black Knight Ram is an elite and dramatic color morph of the classic Ram Cichlid. It is highly prized for its deep, velvety black pigmentation that replaces the traditional yellow and blue hues. Despite their dark appearance, healthy specimens often display subtle iridescent blue speckles on their scales and fins, creating a "galactic" look. These fish are peaceful, intelligent, and serve as a spectacular high-contrast centerpiece in a well-maintained tropical aquarium.

| Minimum Tank Size: | 60L+ |
Behaviour & Tank Compatibility
Black Knight Rams are peaceful community members but can be quite sensitive compared to other cichlids. They are best kept in pairs. They coexist beautifully with other warm-water species such as Cardinal Tetras, Rummy Nose Tetras, Discus, and Sterbai Corydoras. While they are docile, they will defend their chosen nesting site if they decide to breed.
Ideal Tank Setup
-
Stable High Temperature: They are very sensitive to cold water; a high-quality heater is non-negotiable.
-
Pristine Water Quality: Like all Rams, they have a low tolerance for nitrates. Regular water changes and over-filtration are recommended.
-
Natural Decor: Provide flat stones, coconut caves, and driftwood for territory marking and egg-laying.
-
Dense Vegetation: They feel safest in heavily planted tanks with floating plants to provide cover and shade.
-
Dark Substrate: Using a dark substrate will further enhance their intense black coloration.
