Aquael sponge cartridges are made from carefully selected, phenol-free sponge material. They provide efficient mechanical filtration by trapping visible impurities and suspended particles, while also serving as an ideal biological filtration medium by supporting the growth of beneficial nitrifying bacteria.

For optimal filtration performance, sponge cartridges should be replaced regularly. Maintenance is best performed by rinsing the sponge only in aquarium water removed during a water change, to preserve the beneficial bacteria colonies.
